Paul, 17, victim of a homophobic attack
Last Saturday afternoon, in Mazamet (Tarn, France), a new homophobic attack shook the entire LGBTQIA+ community. Paul, a 17-year-old young man, was violently attacked by a group of individuals after confessing his homosexuality to an acquaintance. This tragedy highlights the urgent need to fight against hatred and violence directed against the LGBTQ+ community. The facts of the attack:
This Saturday, September 21, around 4:30 p.m., Paul, accompanied by his friend Emma, was walking in a public garden in Mazamet. As they were heading towards the station, a young girl, an acquaintance of Emma, approached them and asked if they were a couple. Paul naturally replied that he “likes boys,” a confession that immediately triggered a reaction of hate. The young girl, visibly furious, quickly called for help from about ten individuals, made up of young people aged 13 to 20.
The group rushed at Paul, beating him up without further ado. Emma, who tried to intervene, was also beaten. The assault, brutal and rapid, lasted about a minute, an eternity for the victims. Fortunately, the intervention of a passerby, a man in his thirties, put an end to this lynching by dispersing the attackers.
Paul, still in shock, bears the scars of this attack on his body. His mother, Sandy, deeply upset, testifies: "My son was violently attacked simply because he is homosexual. We cannot accept that such things happen. »
